Building Resiliency

Task

To improve the resiliency of Neptune Beach by monitoring stormwater levels, collecting data, and planning more efficiently.

Challenge

Climate change and weather patterns packing more intense storm systems have resulted in a general sea level rise and more frequent episodic flooding.

Solution

The City of Neptune Beach, StormSensor and Smart North Florida partnered to pilot technology, collect data and plan investments that will build resiliency in our coastal communities for future generations.

Sensors were placed at Jarboe Park, Kings Road Bridge, and under manholes along the system. They’re networked and tracked via cloud-based software, providing real-time weather data and alerts for flow events.

Results

Data was collected over time from 2021 to 2022. The results allowed for the City of Neptune Beach to leverage data for funding opportunities to assist in infrastructure improvements at stormwater drains and culverts.
